ABOUT THIS PROJECT: At the beginning of the COVID-19 quarantine in America, I used my personal instagram page to share humorous content to keep friends and family amused; I would sprinkle in social justice content including readings, news, and petition. The latter type of content surged in my story after the murder of Ahmaud Arbery and again after the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. In June 2020, I created this page on my website to make it easier for my network to find the articles, petitions, and racial justice orgs I was talking about, as Instagram doesn’t allow for easy links. For the convenience of friends and family, I’ve collected links in one place here and try to update regularly. Click on images in each gallery to go right to the link; petitions, places to donate, and reading sources listed below. If you’ve got something you think I should add or if you want to have an open conversation about anything, please feel free to send me a message here.
Disclaimer: I didn’t create anything below nor do I claim right to it or am sponsored by it any way. Just things I care about that I want to help share. This is by no means an exhaustive list. There are a lot of thought leaders, blogs, articles, websites, etc that are doing this better than me (I have listed some of those at the end of this page). You can find a lot by just googling and reading…hopefully for people in my network, this is a little way to make it easier for them to support issues they already care about or use this as a place to get started.
Update status: This project was updated regularly between June 1, 2020 and November 10, 2020. It is still live and the links still operate. This page was last updated on June 10, 2021.
ACTION
FIGHT VOTER SUPPRESSION
Support the $10billion support of the USPS that has been blocked by the Treasury Department since the Spring that the President has openly admitted is an attempt at voter suppression for the Fall 2020 Presidential Election. Tell your representatives that you support the funding of the USPS; text USPS to 50409.
Support the passing of the modern voter rights act and HR 6800 (“the Heroes Act”) that was passed by Congress and is held up in the Senate; the passing of this bill would make no-excuse absentee mail-in voting possible in ALL STATES. Tell your representatives that you support this bill.
Volunteer if you can to be a poll worker. Most poll workers are traditionally older volunteers who would be at higher risk for COVID-19 and have not been able to volunteer this year; sign up at www.powerthepolls.org
Why does this matter? Because voting in a democracy is one of the pillars of what people have long claimed makes America great. If our own government blocks voting, then we are not in a democracy.

PETITIONS
Each petition is online and is free and easy to sign. Petitions help local and national government, legal representatives, family, and more gain traction with the work they’re doing. I have included extremely brief summaries below each one; read each petition’s full listing the longer story.
Adopted Asian teen Christian Hall asks cops for help w/ suicide, is shot on bridge. Rest in Peace; family & friends seeking justice re: cops who killed him.
(SOME) PROGRESS
ISSUES WHERE PETITIONS HELPED BRING ABOUT NEW STEPS (i.e. active new signers no longer urgent, but signing is still cool )

ORGS I LOVE
Full disclaimer: these are a selection of organizations I have worked with as a freelance consultant. They are incredible, inspiring orgs doing great work, and are all founded by people of color. All of the ones listed below are nonprofits except for Offor. Check them out.
The orgs below are some larger-scale, national/international nonprofits (except for NextShark, which is a small team of woke hard-working journalists). These are some of my recurring donations; I figure if I can pay for Spotify, I can support causes I care about. If you’re on a limited budge (samesies), read this article by Charity Navigator.
