ABOUT AMANDA TIEN

Amanda Tien (she/her) is a writer, visual artist, and marketing strategist. She grew up on the move as the daughter of a U.S. Army officer and a teacher, developing passions for adventure, service, community, and stories.

Her writing and artwork has been published or is forthcoming in Mothership, Litro Magazine, Public Books, Poets.org, Salt Hill Journal, Unwinnable Monthly, ARC MAG, Call Me [Brackets], and Columbia College Today. Since 2022, she has been an Editor at The Punished Backlog, an independent video game journalism site with about 50,000 monthly readers, where she also writes and co-hosts The Punished Podcast. From 2021 to 2024, she served as the Managing Editor of the transnational feminist literary journal Aster(ix); since 2025, she has served as a Senior Editor. She has taught writing at the University of Pittsburgh and at Temple University.

For the past ten years, Amanda has provided provide marketing strategy and design support for dozens of social impact groups both as a full-time employee and as a freelance consultant. Prior to freelancing, she was the inaugural mar/comm hire at Camelback Ventures, and proudly served for 2.5 years as the Director of Creative & Marketing. She also worked for Y&R Advertising and the National Academy for the Advancement of Teacher Education.

Amanda holds a MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree in Fiction at the University of Pittsburgh where she studied the craft, wrote drafts of two novels, and founded a community-building initiative for grad students. She also holds a BA in Creative Writing from Columbia University where she co-founded and led Culinarian Magazine.
